If you've ever pulled your baseboards off, you know what a joy it can be to tac nail them back into place without marring the surface. This inexpensive little gadget really cuts down on the time, frustration, and cost of repairing or replacing damaged baseboards (when installing them.)The Hitachi is a 5/8" to 2" pneumatic (compressed air) powered nailer. It will require a small air compressor of some kind, but just about any light duty pancake compressor should be more than enough to power it. It takes readily available strait-collated brad nails. It's simple side load design. The trigger is simple and has a short enough stroke to be practical. I have not had a jam yet but clearing it seems simple enough. There is a pressure activated safety just like on the large commercial roofing and framing nailers that prevent firing unless the head makes contact with a surface. It's small and light enough to be a terrific project or furniture nailer. Small boxes are a breeze to assemble. I'm VERY impressed with this little nailer!Out of the box it comes with an attached standard size M-type / industrial style quick-disconnect male air coupler. You will need some pneumatic tool oil. The instructions say add 5 to 10 drops thru the hole in the coupler before each days use. (Twice a day if it's heavy usage.)Update: 9-20-2011I had an issue with a leaking back porch roof. I was able to use this nailer as well as some cheap furring strips to temporarly tac a tarp over the roof until I get it repaired. It's worked well. The burst (AKA bump fire) mode worked flawlessly... Everytime I touch this nailer I find another use. I couldn't be happier with this purchase!

Hard to beat this little brad nailer....especially the warranty. I don't forsee needing the warranty but it's the best.I've been using this brad nailer for a multitude of projects and it is really nice (over 1000 brads so far). I've used about every size brad it can carry and have had no problems with the tool itself. Loading is easy and quick and the swtch from bump to trigger is convenient. One time I struck a nail head and jammed a Brad in this tool. Clearing the jam was simple and quick with no tools required to get it done! It slowed me down less than a minute it figure out how to clear the jam....also didn' need the book to figure it out!! The only thing I find difficult with the tool is the depth adjustment, it's a little difficult to turn if you have really big fingers. Oh yeah, the case it comes with is nice and there's room to store some small boxes of Brads in it too.Overall I think Hitachi put a lot of thought into the design of this Brad Nailer with the user in mind and I highly recommend this tool.NOTE: I was raised to be a Craftsman guy but Hitachi is winning me over...this is the third Hitachi tool I've bought and the Quality, design and warranty you get for the price is tough to beat....food for thought Craftsman your tools aint what they used to be and you can'l live on a name forever!.........I'm the generation who has a son to teach and I'm not recommending Craftsman to him (most recently I bought a Craftsman dozer/snowplow blade for my craftsman lawn tractor and the blade lift welds broke the first time using it to move snow; I couldn't even drive the tractor till I removed the plow. That is not the quality I want to depend on and was the final straw that broke this camels back with Craftsman. Even my dad gave up on them and sold his craftsman tractor for a John Deere.

Works well. Sticking to 85psi to avoid overshooting nails. When oiled a bit too much it seems to jam frequently. Also when my gf used it, it jams almost everytime. I'm guessing she is not holding her wrist firm. Jammed 2x in the first 200 nails for me. Jammed for her like 10x in less than 1 minute. Very light gun overall.I used 60psi to dry fire and unseat the rings. Manual recommends a few 70psi dry fires after not being used in a long time. Prohibits higher psi dry fires though.Overall I'm satisfied. On the internet, people say 18gauge brads shouldn't be used for trim or molding and 16 gauge should be used for increased holding power. But I'm seriously surprised at the holding power. 1 flush nail into trim and a 1x4 was way stronger than I was thinking. I was slightly disappointed that the nails could not hold cloth that well even when fired at different psi and depths, but I should've expected that. Guess I just gotta buy a staple gun to attach the inside curtains to the wall around the edge of the window. I needed one for Christmas and interior lights anyways. If there is any design flaw it would be the depth gauge. Literally not labeled which way to turn. Have to look at the manual and it's easy to forget or mirror the direction. The depth gauge is right in between the trigger and the nail magazine. Would've at least liked some nice bold arrows there or a + / - sign.
