It is what it is. It did the job and I have had better luck with this replacement mandrel shaft than the one that came with my lathe.

So why not have a spare one on hand just in case. Then ass you have to do is grabe it and add it to you'r mandrel and take off again.

The rod is straight and rust free, but only threaded on one side so it will not screw into any of my existing #2 pen mandrels, you will need a collet chuck or one of the adjustable pen mandrels for this to work.I am glad I didn't order the suggested "Knurled Brass Nut". Based on the "Customer Question & Answer" section, the seller states that the thread size of the Brass Nut is 1/4x28 TPI which would matches all my other pen mandrels, but unfortunately the threads on this "Replacement Mandrel Shaft" actually looks to be M6-1.0, good thing I have a Mandrel Saver.

I purchased this as a replacement for the current mandrel. It is straight and does fit my mandrel head. I am glad that I ordered the knurled nut because the one that fits on my current mandrel (from PSI) is not the same thread. If you don't have the mandrel saver that fits in the tail stock be sure to order the nut at the same time. That is the reason for the 4 star rating. This item does not fit into the free shipping calculation but is still cheaper than driving 100 miles round trip to the wood working store

Mandrel Theards out of spec, undersized by .020.When using a 6mm nut the nut is very loose on the threads making it unsafe to use.I did not return the itme as it would cost more to return it than the tool is worth. That said, I would not reccommend this item to anyone.
