I'm a big fan of Porter Cable tools. I have quite a few and they work well, and hold up under heavy use. My previous nailers are 7 years old, and the quality of this new one, I'm afraid to say, is not as good as those that I've had for several years. My older ones were made in Taiwan, and this 5/8 X 2 is, as usual, made in China. I'm sure it's to PC standards, but the fit and finish are just not quite as good. Having said all that, the nailer works as you'd expect, firing perfectly nail after nail. I bought this because my older 18 guage was only good for inch and quarter nails, and I needed 2" capability for woodwork installation. I'm pleased with it, and expect it will work as expected for a long time.

I received this for a Christmas present a couple of years ago, and until recently I had not used it. It finally came time to use it and it worked great, maybe even awesome, for the first 50 nails or so. Then a serious jam occurred, and since there is no quick release open on the head, I struggled to be able to open it to remove the jammed nail. I got 2 of the 3 screws loose, but the 3rd one is on the border of stripping out, since they used loctite on the threads. I called PC to see what they could do and since no receipt they checked my serial number/date code. "Out of warranty", nothing to keep me as a customer. They gave me the number of a local repair shop that charges $45 just to look at it, this was a $70 nailer to begin with. So basically it was a $70 throw away nailer, at about $1.40 per nail driven.Don't get me wrong, it's not that I dislike PC, I have a set of their cordless tools and they work awesome. For them to not even want to offer me some kind of support on this nailer gave me a bad taste in my mouth, thus this review.

I cant judge if this particular nail gun is good or bad, but … I had the previous version of this gun, for nails from 5/8-1 ¼ inch. A had a bigger gun for the 2 inch nails, it made the job faster. If there is a significant difference between the new and the old version, it is that the old version is smaller and fits into smaller spaces. For me, who doesn’t take advantage of the longer nail range of the new gun, loosing the ability of working in tighter spaces matters. … When my old gun broke down, it was hard already to find the older version. … I am using my gun for work. If the tip shouldn’t be grinded in order to be able to shoot in 45 degree angle and the safety switch shouldn’t be killed right on arrival, I would rank the gun on 5.

I install finish trim for a living and have been using this nailer for 4 months. I have three major issues. 1- it really struggles to fully sink long brads over 1 1/2" even after being fully adjusted. 2 - regardless of oiling this gun regularly, it barks nearly every shot. Which is mostly just annoying. 3- the thing that bothers me the most though is that the nose is not a quick release... jams are inevitable and having to stop and take three allen screws loose is a real frustration.I think you can get a better nailer for the same or less money.
