I understand it will take a while to get the grooves of my grill but it is working day one.

I recently replaced the grates on my gas grill with uncoated cast iron grates and didn't want to use a wire brush. Don't want to run the risk of a wire bristle in the food and don't want to scrape off the 'seasoning'. The Mr. Bar-B-Q Oversized Premium Wood Grill BBQ Scraper is the solution. The angled blade effectively removes the residual food bits. The built-in "tooth" fits between the bars in the grates and helps keep the scraper in the same position so it burns in to conform with the grates. It is stout enough to not bend and plenty long enough to keep your hands from getting hot. It is large - arguably "oversized" as advertised. It is well finished - no rough edges and fits well in my hand.I'm not sure why the word "Brush" is in the description - there is no brush. There is a small metal L-shaped piece attached to one side to apparently "scrape hard to reach areas and lifts grates". Initially I'm tempted to remove it - there's only one screw holding it on. I have used it a couple times to knock some crud off the sides of a the grate bars, but it also prevents me from cleaning the left-most area of the grill and it doesn't really securely 'hook' the grates to lift them.

Anyone who knows, is ware that wire grill brushes just aren't safe. There is a potential for wire sprinters getting stuck to the grates and ultimately in your food. This wooden scraper is an excellent alternative. The thing with this is it works best (or really only at all) when the grill is hot. But when the grill is hot, it works fantastically. For cleaning your grill when it's cold, I use pumice stones.

I like this alternative to the usual wire brush or sharp metal scraper. It’s very well made of solid wood. The sloping scraping surface has a “tooth” in the center to align the scraper the same every time you use it. This way, the hot grill burns into the wood creating a “wrap-around” scraper. I’ve got a Genesis grill with a stainless steel bar grate that replaced the old rusted cast iron grates that came with the grill. These are much easier to clean with this wooden scraper as contrasted with a metal scraper. I have never liked using the wire brush cleaner because I have a fear in the back of my head of finding a wire or two in my meal. I don’t like the metal scraper because it does not do a good job between the rods that make up the grate surface. I also fear scraping off some of the surface of the grate when cleaning it. This has a nice long handle to keep my hands out of the heat while cleaning. I recommend heating up the grill to as hot as it will go and cleaning it with this wooden scraper several times while it is very hot. This burns the grate surface into the scraper. Very clever, a nice alternative. I don’t understand why the description uses the term brush – it’s not.

I appreciate that there are products like this that can efficiently clean my grill and be safe. I've used grill brushes all my life but they are an absolute *pain* to clean because they're so prickly and there is the added safety aspect of the brushes becoming dislodged in the food. The Mr. Bar-B-Q wooden scraper and brush has been easy to use on my Weber 22" grill and gets the gunk off the grates so that the cooked food is cleanly grilled. No complaints, highly recommend!

I’m so excited to have this barbecue grill rack cleaner. All I can usually find are the wire brushes and they suppose to be bad to use because the wire can break off, getting stuck to the grill and in the food for some people. This is perfect!!!! Very good quality!!!

I have been looking for a wood grill scraper recently because I have heard that they are one of the best ways to clean a grill. I liked the look of this Mr. Bar-B-Q Wood Scraper because it's a hardwood construction and doesn't have a "D" style handle which tends to crack along the woodgrain. The scraper arrived and it is very large and has a couple of interesting features like a wood "tooth" for getting between the grates as well as a small metal hook, also for getting in where the flat part of the scraper wouldn't. The only real issue that I did not like right away was that this has some sort of wood finish. Not just a cutting board oil finish, but some sort of polyurethane or clear lacquer. The tag that comes with it doesn't say what kind of finish it is. It looks great, but I'm not convinced that's a great idea to be burning onto the surface of my grill where I cook food. To be safe, I sanded off the finish on the whole thing and wiped it down with food-safe mineral oil.Once I was comfortable using it, I did a test run. The wood is very hard and I think this will last a while. It will also take some time to break it in because even after a few uses on a 550F grill, I have barely made a mark in the end of the scraper. I think as it gets more and more use, it will burn in better to the shape of my grill, and even as it is now, it seems to do a decent job of cleaning it up.Overall I think this design is good, but really don't like the finish that comes on it. I don't know what the best answer is with this, but I feel like sanding it down was the safest option and I don't worry about it now that I've done that. If the finish doesn't bother you or you will sand it off too, then I don't think this is a bad choice, but if you are concerned about it, I would look for something similar that is unfinished.
