Amazon.com Basketball System Buying Guide
With the high-quality construction of many portable basketball systems, turning your driveway into a basketball court can be as simple as hooking up your garden hose. But while a portable system may ultimately be your best choice, there are reasons you may want to consider an in-ground or wall-mount system before you decide.

In-Ground Systems
are permanently cemented into the ground--either via a bolt mounting kit or directly into the ground--and are generally more rigid and take up less space than portables. In-ground systems often require that you hire a professional to complete the task, but when the cement dries you'll have a hoop that can take punishing dunks with ease.

Many in-ground systems are height-adjustable, include removable post features that let you take the system down for off-season storage, and feature heavy-duty break-away rims. You'll also want to research the adjustable mechanisms on the systems, as there are several types to choose from. Some feature a counter-balance spring that lets you perform easy, one-hand adjustments while others may feature a sturdy, pneumatic system.

Wall-Mount Systems
can be mounted to the side of a house, a tall retaining wall, or a garage. Generally sturdier than portables, wall-mounts have the added advantage of optimizing your existing ground space for the court, since you won't take any space up with the base or pole. Not all systems include the necessary hardware, so make certain you add a mounting kit to your list.

Portable Systems
require minimal installation and offer ultimate convenience. These systems generally feature a base that can be filled with sand or water to stabilize them and include wheels for portability. Although they are not as sturdy as in-ground or wall-mounted hoops, portables are simple to set up and can often be folded for convenient storage.

Backboard Considerations
Regardless of which system you choose, you'll want to brush up on Backboards 101. Most residential systems feature backboards made of acrylic, fiberglass, graphite, or various other composite materials. While clear acrylic gives the professional look and feel of glass, it is not as rigid as fiberglass or graphite. Some systems may offer steel or aluminum backboards, which are virtually vandal resistant, but don't offer the true rebounding action.

The regulation size of an NBA backboard is 72 inches wide and 42 inches high. Most portable hoops are 42 or 44 inches wide and 36 inches tall. In-ground systems tend to be a bit larger, with 54-inch and 60-inch widths being the most popular. While rectangular shaped backboards provide more bank shot opportunities, they are generally more expensive than the streamlined fan-shaped board.

Installed this above an old garage. It doesn't come with mounting hardware, so I cut some 2x3 wood, grabbed 4 large bolts and placed it up. It's really lightweight and undoubtedly needs more than two bolts to hold it up while a ball is smacked against it, so we added the 2 additional bolts and two longer screws through the backboard. That works. (It looks askew, but only because my alley is a bit downhill, and we wanted the backboard level).

Great product for great price. My only complaint is it doesn’t come with holes and screws to anchor the bottom. This is an outdoor hoop for us. We had to buy and make our own bottom anchors so it wouldn’t blow with the wind.

We bought this to replace an old, cracked, fiberglass backboard that came with the house when we bought it 15 years ago. I was worried this one would be too small, but the size is perfect. The plastic seems like it won’t last as long as the old one, but is great for now. It fit our old mounting bracket and installed fairly easily. We chose to mount it with springs (not included) instead of the big U-bolt that was included (but didn’t fit our bracket) so had to purchase two bolts and nuts for those. Other than that, it was great and the kids are happy. For the price, it’s perfect.

Looks great on our old cemented in the ground pole. This was perfect for our old post. We just wanted a new backboard. You will need a pole and mount if you don’t already have one. We used the old one and it lined up perfectly. Screws and bolts were included, so we swapped those as the old ones were rusted. It’s had its fair share of abuse over the last few months from the kids and is still holding up strong. Great product for the price

this is fine for what it is. a low end backboard and rim combo. Not much "touch" with this rim, just cold hard steel. you can pay more and get a much nicer product. this is good for a hoop in the driveway that gets occasional use. for anything at all serious, spend more and get a better quality product.

This backboard was a replacement for an existing plexiglass backboard from the same company. This backboard is much sturdier than the original and the old breakaway rim that we had fit this perfectly. We live in East Central Illinois so there are many times when my twin 12 year old boys are playing basketball when it is rather chilly outside and so far this is leaps and bounds better than the original and no fear of cracking like the last one. It was easy to put up and it fit our existing brackets perfectly. The top bolts and nuts for the top of the backboard are somewhat challenging, (you will need two people) but we used a deep well socket which made it much easier. We have had this now for a month with it being used almost everyday and it is doing great.

Bought this for my 7 year old grandson, mounted it on the side of our shed 7’. He can’t even reach it, just from the ball hitting the rim, it’s getting bent. The backboard is mad of hollow plastic so it does not have any SOLID support. It’s bound to give and break. I’m probably going to return it for a refund and buy something better and solid. Not recommended.

Muy resistente, excelente calidad, solo que les faltaría agregar en las especificaciones que no cuenta con base para su montaje, lo compré aparte en una Herrería,

Mine came without instructions - a returned item from Warehouse Deals - but easy to find instructions with a Google search. This is net, rim and backboard only. I'd suggest looking for the instructions by model number before buying to be sure it will work for you. You need some form of support for example a post and a bracket to fasten to the post. I fastened mine to the fascia board on by garage with a few screws and washers at the level of the rim where they don't affect play. This is fine for what I wanted, a lower cost solution for preteens. Older teens probably want a larger pro style board.
