When is it time to change your resin?

salt

Softener is using more salt

The continuous addition of salt to your system with no changes in water hardness may be a sign of a damaged resin bed. Degrading resin beads that are losing their ability to soften water can no longer hold salt. Resulting in hard water returning to your home and plumbing.

regenerating

Regenerating more than usual

Damaged resin beds can cause a loss of soft water. Soap not lathering, clothes feeling rough and appearing dingy, and soap scum on the shower and tub are some indications you again have hard water. Regenerating more than usual can be an indication that your resin bed needs to be replaced.

chlorine damage

Excessive chlorine damage

Chlorine found in municipal city water degrades resin. It deteriorates the binding agent that holds resin beads together. Causing the resin to lose its effectiveness. Depending on the chlorine content in your water, this may happen quicker. Resulting in the resin needing to be replaced sooner than typical life expectancy.

10 year

Used for more than 10-15+ years

Water softener resin can last 10 to 15 years. But this depends on the quality of your water. Contaminants like high chlorine from municipal city water, iron, or extremely hard water can cause the resin to lose its effectiveness sooner. Resulting in the loss of soft water to your home.

Refurbished my softener cylinder with this resin media and other components (rings, filter basket and draw pipe) Packed in this resin and it went flawlessly. Saved my softener and and getting wonderfully soft water again. Well water FULL of iron, Nickel, Magnesium, Manganese.. Super hardness. All handled effectively by these new beads. Totally worth it.

Watched a youtube on how to change it in an on-the-go softener that is 14 years old. Was easy to do and the water is now much softer and was a lot cheaper than buying a new one.

I purchased 1/2 CuFt of resin to increase the capacity of an underfilled softener resin tank. Shipment was quick, and there was no damage to the bags containing the resin, which has identical appearance to the resin already in the tank. The only reason for less than 5 stars was that the price would have been lower elsewhere, but I needed it quickly (and it was delivered quickly).Note that when adding new resin, a small amount of leaching- fractured beads/residue- is normal and to be expected when water is first passed through the tank. After connecting the softener tank, I ran water from a faucet near the connection. The water started discolored (gold/tan), but after about 5 gallons ran completely clear. Again, this initial discoloration is to be expected with fresh resin, and I cannot say whether it was from the resin I bought here, or the resin (also fresh) already in the tank. I anticipate no problems with the resin.

The cost of resin for my soft water unit seemed a little high but prices are over the place depending upon the supplier. However, when considering replacement only needs to happen every 8 to 10 years the price I paid was not that bad.As the resin did not come with any type of instruction on how to accomplish this task. As it was my first time I was a little concerned. However, an email to the manufacturer of my unit was quickly returned explaining what to do. Was an easy process and the new resin is working great.

Maybe it's on me, but pretty sure it's the product. Shouldve guessed when it all said water SOFTENER resins. The 1st pic I have 3 stages for automotive use. I built it, im no stranger to this stuff. And even reversed them for trickle down top to bottom vice versa etc for testing. (4.5x10 vessels)1st step is activated charcoal fine mediaStage 2 is cation media (THIS PRODUCT)stage 3 is anion resinStarted off washing all the media with pure 0 tds water. Installed filters with compressed media. 10.1 gpm 161ppm at the hose. Tested first 5 gallons and it was at 9.1gpm 159ppm. Did this for 30 gallons at .5 gpm no drop in ppm. Stays around 141-151.Then tested each EACH individual vessel.Carbon drops 20ppm post filter, Cation (this brand) RAISED 15ppm.Anion -20ppm.Then I came inside and tested DROP BY DROP after washing fresh 4oz of beads with distilled 0ppm water. Then tested distilled water thru media adding 16ppm. Then went to tap. See the pics, I did drop by drop for over an hour and I was not happy.I'm going back to mixed bed resins, this wasted 2 days thinking it was me messing this up. Nope
