I think that I should start out by saying that the sound that I eventually got out of this unit was outstanding. The Sabre DAC really sounded nice in my application. Having the option to use the unit as a preamp or a DAC was also very useful. What I did not like was how confusing the menu system in the setting was to access. The good thing for me was that I pretty much could set them up once and leave them be. However, if I wanted to experiment with the DAC filter settings, it would be an absolute pain to do so. Maybe other people find the controls fine, but not me. Other than that, one of the best options out there for someone that needs an MQA capable DAC. Getting MQA out of the thing was not easy but I lay that more at the feet of Tidal and Wiim in my case. Eventually, after flipping who knows how many toggles, I got it to work. What would improve this unit other than making the setting menu simpler? one analog input would make this a great product from the pre-amp side (I know that that's not the point of a DAC, but it could eliminate one extra box from my situation.)

Item has difficulty and fails to “render” MQA streams via optical or coaxial connections using the WIIM Pro streamer. It works perfectly on the USB input. However, I do not use usb for streaming. I tested it streaming Tidal MQA from my laptop via usb. It also works and properly renders while streaming MQA music from Tidal on my large audio system where I use a Bluesound Node 2i streamer. I’ve been testing and trying to get it sorted for many hours trying to get it to render properly with the WIIM Pro streamer with zero joy. My Topping DX5 from my large system works perfectly with the WIIM Pro. For some unknown reason the E50 doesn’t recognize MQA files coming from the WIMM Pro. I’ve had enough testing so the little beast that “thought it could” is going back to Amazon. A bit upsetting.

I replaced my elderly parents' old CD player with Tidal -> Wiim Pro -> this Topping E50 DAC, and put the Wiim under Google Nest voice control so that my mom can just ask for music. Even without replacing their old AVR or speakers, the improvement in sound was remarkable. For all but much higher-end systems (like what I run at my own home) this DAC is all one should ever need. 192/24, MQA, superb measurements, and would have cost $2000 for this signal quality 10 years ago, for $199 -- I'm satisfied.

Just more junk that Amazon sells. I suspect companies sell Amazon their seconds because they squeeze them so hard. Bought another Topping DAC from another vendor and it is still going strong after 5 years.

Used for small system in the kitchen with powered speakers using a Wii Mini as streamer. Very smooth top end. It's connected using the TRS balanced to the speakers, but I can use the RCA outs to drive the sub, which is a plus; volume all controlled from the Topping remote. Instant Hi-Fi!

Simple high quality design.For me to get the best results I used a power bank as the power supply as it’s sensitive to noise.I have connected this DAC to an Arcam AVR550 and HTPC (w. B&W Nautilus). I did get slight noise when I connected the HTPC via HDMI and analog together to the amp when at high volume. The solution was to connect the HTPC to the TV direct and the DAC analog to the amp. Sadly my tv doesn’t have eARC for movies so a bit of a fiddle for the time being. Not the fault of the product.The sound quality from all sources have improved significantly.Criticism for me is now shifting to the original recordings of artists instead my sound system. Not all artists and producers are audiophiles!This is a great way to achieve MQA and HiRes Audio without spending 1000’s. However a streamer with Tidal connect would be convenient.

Dovendo collegare un subwoofer attivo al PC ed utilizzando un amplificatore autocostruito in classe d(ricordate i famosi tripath serie ta2022) avevo la necessità di due uscite separate da mandare all'ampli e al sub in quanto ogni altra soluzione si era rivelata inadeguata. Per questo scopo il dac è perfetto, uscita bilanciata all'ampli e RCA al sub, o viceversa tanto gli ingressi sono entrambi sbilanciati. In questo modo si ottiene un risultato perfetto. Si possono selezionare con il telecomando i dispositivi da attivare in quanto consente di avere A o B e a+b come uscite attive. Interferenze tra i due dispositivi nessuna. Il suono come dac è ben bilanciato e neutro e devo dire che con oramai quasi un mese di rodaggio è anche migliorato. Trasparente, pulito su tutta la gamma, ottima scena non stancante. Nella mia configurazione lo trovo perfetto. Ho comunque la curiosità di utilizzarlo con un ampli con ingresso Bilanciato per vedere se c'è qualche differenza.

I use with a Hegel H120 amp. Had prefered the Topping E30 and wasn't sure the E50 would be an improvement I would hear. It is.

I replaced my Schiit Modi 3E with the E50 and I'm surprised how much more lively and clear the E50 sounds in comparison. I'm running it with a Wiim Mini into a vintage solid-state preamp and tube power amp. They're definitely singing better than with the Schiit. Highly recommended, and the silver looks gorgeous.
