This guiro is a nice size. I saw it listed as a "mini" and guessed it might bea toy. It's not just a toy. It can be played and enjoyed much like its largercousins. It has 2 levels of coarseness and well padded finger holes. Thesound is midrange dominant, which is normal. They've supplied 2 sticks, one harder than the other, adding more detail to the sound. I like the bluecolor. It's a nice change from yellow.

This might be a good practice instrument or toy for kids, but I wouldn't plan on using it for a performance. I have a friend with a genuine wooden guiro, and the difference is noticeable.I liked the big size when I first got it, but I could see this maybe being uncomfortable to use for someone with small hands. The main drawback is it's a little too plasticky in feel and sound. I didn't feel like the sound projected much, either.I'm a keyboard player and not a full percussionist, so I'm no expert here. However, the quality seems to match the price because you won't find many much cheaper than this one.

I've had an LP guiro for years and it's always been fine - not great, but it's gotten the job done. Any time I've thought of replacing it I just couldn't justify spending the money on an instrument I use maybe twice a year. This one came available through Amazon Vine and I thought I'd give it a shot. I love that it has two sides with different groove depths/spacings and the wider side is closest to the LP Super Guiro but I've found it is slightly more articulate as the grooves are more square shaped. The finer shallower grooves get much closer to an authentic Cuban and Puerto Rican guiros I've played while still being made from a synthetic material you don't have to worry about breaking.

On one hand, I can't fault this guiro's materials, fit, or finish; it's well-assembled and seems reasonably durable. On the other hand, there are some questionable design choices that I think end up compromising its sound, and therefore its ultimate usefulness. To begin with, neither set of ridges has much depth. Combine that with a soft-ish plastic and you have a couple of issues going on simultaneously: first off, you don't get much attack or "cut" with either of the included sticks (the plastic one is marginally better than the wooden one, but only barely). Second, I suspect that the softer plastic is actually absorbing some of the sound waves instead of projecting them the way a harder material would; this has a soft and timid sound that doesn't really make itself heard. This is inexpensive, and I suppose it's okay-ish as a starter instrument, but I'd do some more shopping around if you're more experienced and/or intend to use it in a live setting.

Unfortunately this is not as good quality and sounding as a metal one.

The Soulmate Guiro Instrument is a 3.9"x13" fish-shaped percussion instrument, perfect for both beginners and professional musicians. Made for live performances, this Latin percussion tool includes two scrapers to produce the distinctive guiro sound. Ideal for musical training, this instrument adds texture and rhythm to any band accompaniment. With its vibrant pink color, it’s not only a functional tool but also an attractive addition to any musical setup. Great for those looking to expand their percussion skills or add unique sound to their performances.
