Product Description

Scottoiler Dispenser Positioning

The ideal positioning for the Scottoiler dispenser is directly onto the face of the sprocket. From here the Scottoil transfers cleanly from the nib of the injector so that every drop of oil creates a thin ring around the sprocket which then radiates out across the sprocket face, micro-dosing Scottoil onto each part of the chain that passes the sprocket as the wheel rotates. This application method will result in a clean micro-fine layer of Scottoil being applied for perfect transmission lubrication with no mess.

I've used a few different systems of chain oilers, from homemade to that cheap Chinese Nemo knock-off (which I swear is made by the same manufacturer as the actual Nemo one!). The Nemo knock-off worked great...for a while. Then I couldn't get it to stop draining. Changed all the O-rings, cleaned it out...still, just kept dripping and dripping. So, I decided to try the Scottoiler V-system. Yeas, I have to splice into a vacuum line but that was extremely easy. And this thing, so far, has worked miraculously! In addition, Scott has created their own, specific "oil" (which I believe is a combination of of regular gear oil and transmission fluid. Let me tell you, this stuff is awesome! It's very thin but holds well and has kept my chain with a very fine layer of lubrication! Not too much and not too little!I bought a bottle of the RED as I reside in sunny, hot and humid Florida but I'm sure the BLUE (which came with the V-system will work just the same). One bottle is supposed to last up to 10,000 miles or so.A great investment for any chain-driven motorcycle!

Living in the South West US vs UK the recommended temp range shifts to the red vs blue colour range. It's been some years since I have had a chain vs shaft drive bike. Rather than fuss with adding chain lube to carry for multi day trips I find the Scott Oiler a good way to keep your chain lubed. This first refill of the reservoir was in the 2,500 mile range at the recommended drip rate of roughly 1 drop a min. The device itself is rather ungainly visually however it readily fits under the side cover, so I have no reservations on its install in my case. Chain maintenance is reduced to a weekly tension check & dovetails nicely with my tyre air pressure maintenance routine. Monthly reservoir checks shall suffice in my case unless the aforementioned trips are ongoing then just monitor the millage. Strictly speaking of course its portioned via time vs millage but that said most of my time is spent 60-85mph as this is a street bike.As far as the system itself, the idea of flowing oil rather than using a modern sticky wax has some merit. The idea being rather than potentially trapping grit and creating a lapping compound, the oil works to release grit in the contact surfaces. I do not ride in particularly gritty environments (an occasional short dirt fire road or driveway) and just do not see the need to add a "cleaning" regime so far with the modern sealed X Chain. I did a weekly cleaning when I was running a sticky wax chain lube and am not sorry to stop. A simple wipe of the rim and spokes and fling radius is working well in preventing accumulated grime, and again just fits in fine with the weekly pressure check.Like "OIL threads" on the internet it gets incredibly divisive when discussing chain maintenance. For me this has been a improvement in my use of the bike.

I use this in a different manufacturer's product, but I like the lube. Works great

I don't have a Scott oiler, I have another *manual* chain oiler that I really like, but had tried a heavy cheaper gear oil that I didn't like so much - a friend gave me an old half-bottle of ScottOil to try. Waaay less messy, and I didn't seem to have to adjust the chain as often, i.e. less wear. When that was gone, I stuck with ScottOil. I give the chain a short shot every 200 miles or so - maybe more if it's dusty, or rainy, or if the chain just looks like it needs it. Chain/sprockets stay lubed and reasonably clean, with less visible fling-off on the wheel and bike, clean/adjust the chain every 6,000 miles or so (whenever the oiler reservoir runs out and needs a refill). I have never had less chain bother.
