I bought a set of these and they are really nice, bought a set of the cheaper ones, 12 for less money and you get what you pay for, I came back to get a second set, I use them for eating sardines and they are great.

I like these little forks for use when eating lobster tails. They help get the meat out of the shells much more handily than a regular fork.

The local indigenous people left behind many mortar holes in rocks where they broke up their shellfish. The shell fragments are still there. They did not have oyster plates, or refrigerators, and undoubted ate right off the rocks, staving off starvation for awhile. I once had abalone, a childhood memory, where some divers cut them them up and marinated them in lemon juice in a handy mortar hole. Now, just about every grocery store has oysters and they are cheaper than they were a few years ago, a dollar on the pricy West Coast. This makes them an accessible treat now and then. Arranging them on this plate may not actually be better than eating them off of rocks, but it is more acceptable in many social situations.Actually, the real function of an oyster plate is to hold them level so that the juice does not drip out. Due to the many sizes and irregular shapes of oysters, the only really good way to serve them raw is to place them on a dish filled with crushed ice. They stay level and fresh. I would suggest that if you are having a party it would be good to make sure you have some crushed ice and that would make this plate not only even nicer, but utilitarian as well.Or, simply serve them on rocks and call it a theme party. Either works for me.Nothing indicates where it is made (this is hidden on more and more products now0 and deeper pockets would make it easier to hold the oysters level. This all costs a star, but it is till a good value and perfect if you do the ice thing.

I purchased a set of four as a gift, and they are precisely what I expected. They are simply elegant and a perfect size. Compared to a certain French fine porcelain producer's oyster plates I recently saw in a fine boutique, which were marked over $500, these are practically as beautiful. Certainly, this is not a high end collectors piece, but if you're going to use it on a regular basis, these plates are beautiful as well as functional. Now I'd like to order some for myself.

These are made of stainless steel, making them easy to clean. I use them for pickle and olive forks. They are a step above a 'plain' fork with a little shape to them. I wish they were a little longer.

The outer prongs are slightly curved like in the photo, this makes it a little harder to pierce food. Good quality though.
