It the large enough to create a realistic ribbit-like sound, like a croaking frog, when played correctly. It is also a low-range pitch as a wood tone block. INSTRUCTIONS: Use the wood stick (included) to gently rake up the frog's back to create a lower-pitch cricket chirp. Or lightly tap the nose of the frog with a thick end of the striker to get a resonating note as a wood tone block. Store the striker in the frog's mouth.

Well-made and ingeniously packaged, made an excellent gift, and it doesn't even matter if you ever play them. They will look great on a bookshelf, piano, atop your favorite tom-tom. In my view, better than the three tired old see-nothing-hear-nothing-say-nothing monkeys! And, of course, you can keep up to three kids busy with them so you can do something while they are enhancing their sense of rhythm. Win-win all around!

I’m extremely impressed with the frogs. Much better in person. The kids love it. And when not in use- a great decor for the library. Sounds great too!! Really great pieces to have.

I recently added these to my collection of percussion instruments - and they're wonderful. Adorable to look at and their sound is good. The bigger the frog the deeper the tone when you scrape them from back to front. This set also came with a bonus carved owl whistle, which sounds rather owl-like when you blow.

Just need to make sure you let them air out before using .. very strong stain smell and has that oily feel of stain...maybe needs to be wiped off a bit more after staining? Otherwise they are very cool

The contents came in a nice woven box, with an owl flute to boot. They do sound like frogs from certain parts of the world, and can be picked up or left on a surface to produce different sounds, which are created by dragging the poles over the back of the frogs from butt to head. Looking at the other review photos, I'm assuming these are hand-crafted, due to the differences of the nose-hole locations and such. If this is the case, the quality for the price is a steal. If you'd like to grab a neat rather unusual gift for someone, get this.
