I have a set of three pro-quality air-powered nail guns in different sizes plus an inexpensive air-powered and a hand-powered staple gun. The photo shows my 18-gauge nail gun alongside this battery-powered AEROPRO tool. Dragging out and running the very loud air compressor for the former is a nuisance for small jobs; that is why I was interested in the battery powered nail gun. I tested it on some scraps of pine and also on oak and it had no problem with either, even with the longest nails in the kit. There is, however, one downside to this AEROPRO gun, it is very heavy and could be tiring to use for long periods of time. I guess that is part of the deal when you substitute a battery-powered tool for one that operates on air from a separate power source. That said, when I see TV programs with pros on a job site, they are more likely to use heavy battery-powered tools than air-powered so that they are not tethered to a hose. The major downsides compared to my air-powered equivalent are the size and weight. This AEROPRO tool weights about 7 pounds (with one battery installed) while my other one comes in at about 3 pounds. That said, the convenience of this AEORPRO tool compared to my other nail guns means that it will likely be my go-to tool for most small or medium-size jobs. The set includes a nice case and a good selection of nails and staples. One more thing I should mention is that, after driving one nail, the gun seemed to stop working. It sounded okay but I could not see any nails in the test piece. Also, occasionally, it would not fire at all. I contacted customer service and, by the next morning, they had reached out with some tests I could perform to pin down the problem and an offer of a replacement. The gun passed all of the suggested tests and, to my surprise and delight, started working reliably. I am not sure what was wrong, perhaps it was something I did, but I do want to include in this review a mention of the first-rate customer service.

Nothing beats the convenience of a battery-powered tool, and this one gives you the added benefit of shooting both 18 gauge finish nails and 18 gauge narrow crown staples. There are no adjustments needed to switch between the fasteners - just remove one and insert the other. There's a convenient switch on the side that lets you choose between single fire - one nail at a time - or contact fire - shoots a nail everytime you contact the gun tip to the work surface (be careful when using the contact fire). The same side panel also gives you warning light read-outs for any problems. It comes in a nice, hard-shell fitted case, and the instructions are surprisingly good. The complete kit includes a pair of 2.0 Ah batteries and a charger, and the batteries charged quickly without any problems. The batteries also have fuel gauges, to let you see what the remaining battery life is. Also comes with a small sample pack of both nails and staples. The only thing I didn't really like - and this could just be a personal preference - is that the tool is pretty heavy. It may get a little tiring to use for extended periods of time. Other than that, I loads and fires well, and seems to be a good value for the price.
